Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) expressed serious concern over what it termed as “the parasitic infestation of illegal immigrants”, threatening the social fabric of the citizens of Mokokchung district and to safeguard the traditional, cultural identity and ancestral land of the Aos. A press note issued by AKM president L. Jemti Longchar and general secretary Bendangkumba Aier said AKM started the ‘Survival Mokokchung’ in 2007, through which they were able to educate and create awareness on the menace of illegal immigrants. “During those times they dominated the major economic spectra creating unwanted situation to both the local and genuine Indian businessmen,” AKM stated.
Reaffirming the resolution during its general convention whereby ‘Survival Mokokchung’ took its shape, AKM said it would “stand firm till this day to fight this evil design”. In a stern warning to individuals/groups harboring illegal immigrants by way of creating syndicate for self motivated interest and gains, AKM said it would “not spare its rod” and treat them as traitors of the land. Meanwhile, AKM appreciated the people of the district irrespective of tribe, creed, cast and religion for rendering their valuable resources and intellectuals for sensitizing the people of Mokokchung district.
