Despite directives to remove all temporary structures/shops along the roads, particularly below the railway flyover, hordes of people continue to carry out normal business in such areas.
When this reporter enquired about their permits, the vendors failed to produce any authorisation papers/trade license.
They, however, claimed that new flyover area organisation collected Rs 2,000 from each shop monthly.
Leave alone trade license, some of the shopkeepers, who have occupied public spaces and set up shops under the flyover near Dimapur railway station, even failed to show Aadhaar or any other identification card, raising concerns about their origin.
Though some claimed to have come from neighbouring Assam for business purposes, an official concerned disclosed that several groups/organisations were providing support to these vendors, and admitted their helplessness to curb their activities.
A police official also told this reporter that unless orders were received from the higher authorities, the police could not proceed with any investigation. It may be mentioned that the Naga Council Dimapur in November this year urged DC Dimapur to order removal of all temporary, illegal and unauthorised structures of shops/vendors in Dimapur particularly below Dimapur railway fly-over and develop a place for systematised vehicle parking lot for shoppers.
