ILP issue: NSF flays govt’s failure to act on its 30-day deadline

Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has expressed deep concern and condemned the state government’s failure to act on its 30-day deadline for revocation of the order suspending the Inner Line Permit (ILP).

NSF president Medovi Rhi and general secretary Chumben Khuvung said that the June 2, 2023 suspension order for the erstwhile Dimapur district, encompassing Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland, directly impacted the interests and cultural integrity of Naga people. With the expiry of the 30-day deadline, NSF has called upon all federating units to remain vigilant and prepared for any necessary course of action in response to the state government’s inaction.

The signatories appealed for immediate action to rectify this situation while emphasising that it was in the interest of Naga people.
NSF pointed out that it had submitted a representation to the chief secretary on February 28, 2024, wherein it articulated the urgent need for action to safeguard the indigenous people’s interests and uphold the cultural fabric of Naga homeland.

Despite these pleas, NSF lamented that the state government had failed to take decisive measures to address the demand.
Further, the signatories have appealed to all stakeholders and Naga public in general to render their support and cooperation in this noble crusade to secure a definite future for Naga people.

Highlighting the critical importance of stringent ILP enforcement across the state, they reiterated their demand for establishment of monitoring cells at vital entry points, including Dimapur railway station, Dimapur airport, and all entry/exit points to Nagaland. Additionally, they called for robust ILP enforcement in all district headquarters to protect the rights of indigenous inhabitants.

They maintained that these demands were not mere requests but a resolute call to protect the very essence of Naga homeland.
NSF asserted that the ILP system served as a vital safeguard for indigenous inhabitants, requiring a government committed to honesty, transparency, and accountability. The federation reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to advocating for the rights and interests of Naga people and ensuring the preservation of the homeland’s integrity.
