DIMAPUR, OCT 13 (NPN): Inner Line Regulation Commission (ILRC) of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has backed Angami Public Organisation’s (APO) resolution on the enforcement of Inner Line Pass system and protection of Naga interests, calling for a united and coordinated response from tribal organisations and state government.
In a statement, ILRC-NSF said the APO had highlighted the continued failure to effectively enforce safeguards under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873, including in Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland.
It said APO’s phased approach provided individuals and non-indigenous communities a clear timeframe to address illegal immigration and ensure that employment, services, documentation and tenancy arrangements complied with the law.
ILRC clarified that Naga people were not opposed to non-indigenous people who entered, worked, traded and resided in Nagaland lawfully, but maintained that illegal immigration and non-compliance with the law remained the concern.
ILRC expressed support for APO’s initiative and urged other Naga tribal organisations and apex bodies to join in a coordinated effort. It also called upon state government to act with urgency.
The commission said its representation to the chief minister, submitted on October 1 following the National Seminar on the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, was still awaiting a response from the chief minister’s office.
It added that although the representation had been reported in the print media, space constraints had prevented publication of the full text. Those seeking a copy could request it through ILRC’s official WhatsApp No. +91 84138 99928.
