Imchen celebrates 75 birthday; 25 years of public service

DIMAPUR

Advisor of IPR and Soil & Water Conservation, Imkong L Imchen marked a dual milestone on Saturday by celebrating his 75th birthday and completing 25 years as an elected legislator from 28 Koridang A/C at his native village Mangmetong on June 15.
Addressing the gathering of family, supporters and well-wishers, Imchen recalled his humble beginnings, born in post-war hardship on June 15, 1950. “My parents didn’t even have cloth to wrap me in. That was the situation I was born into,” he said. He reflected on how Mangmetong village was left in ashes and how far both he and the community have come.
Sharing about his troubled youth, Imchen testified to overcoming destructive habits and a violent past through the grace of God. “From my early years, I was criminal-minded… but Jesus loved me more than others—that I know,” he said emotionally.
Imchen recounted his political journey, starting from the 2003 Assembly Election. He shared how Chungtia village offered full support despite him not being a native, which helped him gain momentum and eventually build a stronger base. “Many people dream of getting elected once, but I’ve been elected five times. This is purely by God’s grace,” he said.
He also noted the significance of his 75th birthday falling on Father’s Day, calling it a special blessing. Imchen shared how his favourite hymn, “He Leadeth Me,” has been his source of strength throughout life.
The celebration was chaired by Dr Lolen Imchen, pastor, MBA, invocation by Rev. Juin Jamir, and blessing prayer by Rev. R. Teka.
Greetings were shared by Lima Imchen, president DMSU, and Kikatemba, secretary Mangmetong Village Council. Exhortation was delivered by Dr Lolen Imchen, and benediction by Rev. Dr Noklen IKR from Ungma.
Imchen also presented tokens of appreciation to all village councils, church representatives and party leaders present at the programme.
