Imchen clarifies on move

Seeking to clear up “some confusion” among the people concerning current political situation in the state, NPF Legislature Party said Friday that current move for the change of leadership pertained to only among the members of the DAN coalition. The party said it was not in any way a move to topple the government nor was it a case of defection, split or changing the party.
In a press release, spokesperson of the NPF Legislature Party Imkong L. Imchen pointed out that DAN coalition comprising of NPF, BJP and JDU was made of a total of 43 members in the house of 60.
And in the present scenario, he said the change in the leadership was to be amongst these 43 members and the person who enjoyed the confidence of the majority shall automatically be the leader of DAN Legislature party. Imchen said out of 38 MLAs, Kaito enjoyed the support of 22 MLAs making his claim “constitutionally legitimate.”
Further, Imchen said G Kaito Aye enjoyed the support of 26 legislators out of the 43 members of the DAN Coalition (22 NPF and four BJP).
On the other hand, he said T.R. Zeliang has the support of only 16 members namely (15 NPF and 1 JDU). Imchen said that 43rd member of the DAN coalition, Speaker of the House, who belonged to NPF, was neutral by virtue of the post. He pointed out that the NPF, BJP and JD(U) were political parties, which were pre-poll partners of the DAN alliance and the NCP was not a pre-poll partner of the coalition.
