Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for four North Eastern states– Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura with heavy rainfall predicted in these states in the next 24 hours.
IMD predicted isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during May 5-7 and extreme heavy rainfall likely over Meghalaya on May 6.
Further, IMD in its bulletin said that fairly widespread, light to moderate rainfall accompanied with isolated thunderstorm and lightning and gusty winds (40-50kmph) very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura in the next five days.
According to IMD, a cyclonic circulation lies over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and another over Marathwada and a trough runs from Meghalaya to the cyclonic circulation over Marathwada in lower tropospheric levels. IMD said that “strong southwesterly winds from bay of Bengal to the North East are very likely to prevail at lower tropospheric levels on May 5-6.”
Meanwhile, the intensity of heat wave prevailing in east and parts of southern peninsular India came down slightly on Saturday, with the weather office predicting relief from the scorching conditions in these regions after two days.
