Nagaland-based singer-songwriter Imliakum Aier has made a return to his solo music journey with the release of “Dimapur,” a heartfelt tribute to the city that has profoundly shaped his life and artistic identity. The song serves as the lead single from his upcoming solo EP, which is slated for release later this year.
Known for his introspective songwriting and evocative storytelling, Imliakum has established himself as one of Nagaland’s prominent contemporary musicians. Through acclaimed works such as The Message From The Hills and Dancing in the Capital, he has garnered a dedicated following for his blend of folk-inspired melodies and poetic lyricism exploring themes of identity, faith, and belonging.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the new release, Imliakum described Dimapur as a tribute to the city that played a defining role in both his personal and creative journey.
“Dimapur is a song about the city that gave me everything. The city that made me, broke me, challenged me, and ultimately became a part of my identity,” he said.
The singer recalled growing up listening to songs about cities such as New York, Paris, and California, and dreaming of one day writing a song dedicated to his own hometown.
“This song is my way of celebrating Dimapur, not just for the world to hear about it, but for everyone whose stories, memories, friendships, and dreams are connected to this city. I don’t think anyone leaves Dimapur unchanged,” he added.
Accompanied by a music video portraying everyday life, relationships, and the city’s quiet charm, Dimapur serves as both a personal reflection and a love letter to the commercial hub of Nagaland. The song pays homage to the people, memories, and experiences that have left a lasting impression on generations who have called the city home.
The release also marks the beginning of a larger musical project, with Dimapur setting the tone for Imliakum’s forthcoming EP. According to the artist, the upcoming collection of songs will delve into themes of home, nostalgia, love, and loss through his signature narrative-driven style.
With Dimapur, Imliakum Aier not only returns to the spotlight as a solo artist but also offers a poignant tribute to a city that continues to shape the lives, aspirations, and memories of countless people.
