Minister of Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along, graced the annual Autumn Carnival of Kohima College, Kohima on October 16. The event was jointly organised by Skill Development Cell and the Students Welfare Committee.
Imna in his speech, underscored the government’s commitment to support education and tourism in the region. He also acknowledged the vital role played by hosting this kind of initiatives as it foster equal educational opportunities.
The carnival’s centerpiece was the “Contributed Items Stall,” where faculty, staff, and students enjoyed at the variety of items available at nominal prices. The proceeds from the stall will bolster the “Need-Based Grant-in-Aid” fund, supporting students from underprivileged backgrounds in their pursuit of education. Chairperson of the event, Kethosenuo Kesiezie stressed the importance of community and the college’s commitment to help students overcome financial barriers to education. The “Contributed Items Stall” was a testament to this dedication, Kesiezie said.
Established as the “Poor Students Fund” in 2017 with an initial contribution of Rs.1,00,00 from the then-Governor PB Acharya, the initiative has evolved into a critical resource for underprivileged students at Kohima College. The day began with an invocation by Khekali Sema followed by Dr. Vitsosie Vupru’s welcome address and the inauguration of the carnival.
