Higher Education & Tourism minister Temjen Imna Along on Monday inaugurated the MY Retreat above ISBT, at T Khel Model village in Kohima.

Addressing the gathering, Along noted that the tourism industry was relatively a new sector and though the state government focused on providing a unique experience to tourists, the initial warmth of the people dissipated very soon as many wished the departure of guests.
Emphasising showcasing both contemporary and traditional aspects of the culture, he called for commitment and focus for future opportunities.

Stressing on the need to provide the best services and building relationships, Along said that there should be no compromise so that people would return if they are left with a positive impact.

Meanwhile, the minister disclosed that the number of stalls in the upcoming Hornbill Festival at Kisama would surpass the 100-figure mark, compared to the previous year’s 60. He claimed that the selection process for setting up stalls was also streamlined, based on a lottery.

He remarked that government support did not imply everything was free and urged the participants to realise that return visits in tourism were likely if the initial experience was positive, emphasising curating such experiences for a lasting impact.

MY Retreat proprietor Akhrietuo Sekhose, who spoke on the occasion, stated that the guest house would serve as a tourist centre affiliated with the department of Tourism.
He revealed that the acronym “MY” represented his paternal grandfather and grandmother’s names Meguozelie and Yasienuo respectively. He pointed out that MY Retreat was located away from the town, thereby providing a distinctive experience compared to conventional hotels.

He said his facility comprised five rooms, a seating area with a fire pit named after his paternal grandfather Meguozelie Badze, and a traditional morung named after his paternal grandmother Yasienuo Pru, adding that the retreat was done in collaboration with the Department of Tourism.

On the occasion, dedication prayer was pronounced by Khedi Baptist Chruch, Kohima village, pastor Dr Ruokovilie Sachu.
