IMPCC discusses media strategy for Census 2027 in Nagaland

DIMAPUR: The first meeting of the Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC), Nagaland, for 2026 was held on June 9 at Akashvani Kohima.
Constituted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, the IMPCC comprises representatives from Central and State government departments and media units. The committee aims to strengthen public communication, coordinate media outreach and address misinformation. Representatives from PIB, CBC, Doordarshan, Akashvani, DIPR Nagaland and the Directorate of Census Operations, Nagaland attended the meeting.
Director of Census Operations, Nagaland, Dr. K. Miachieo, briefed members on preparations for Census 2027 and the associated awareness campaign. He informed that the first phase, the House Listing Operation, will be carried out across Nagaland from July 1 to 30, 2026, preceded by a Self Enumeration facility from June 16 to 30, 2026 through the official Census portal. More than 6,100 enumerators and supervisors have been deployed for the exercise.
Dr. Miachieo also highlighted the planned media outreach strategy, which will include print, radio, television and digital platforms. Awareness programmes will be conducted in 15 local dialects, along with Nagamese and English, to ensure wider reach. Emphasising the importance of accurate census data for effective development planning, he urged citizens to cooperate with officials and provide correct information.
Chairing the meeting, Head of Office, PIB Kohima, P. Sophie, underscored the need for a coordinated and theme based media strategy using modern communication tools to enhance public awareness. He also called on stakeholders to collaborate closely with PIB in countering misinformation related to government programmes.
The meeting deliberated on various outreach and publicity measures to ensure effective dissemination of information and the successful conduct of Census 2027 in Nagaland.
