1 dead, 15 polling personnel injured in road mishap in Wka

One person was killed and 15 others injured when a vehicle carrying polling personnel met with an accident nearnear Thillong Bridge, Doyang under Wokha district on Sunday afternoon.
When contacted, Addl SP & PRO Wokha police informed Nagaland Post that the vehicle (Force Traveller AS01LC-0882) carrying 16 persons including security and polling personnel, was enroute to Sungro sector polling station 4 of 39th Sanis A/C for election duty.
The 16 occupants included the driver, handyman, a Nagaland police personnel, eight Jharkhand IRB personnel and five polling officials. PRO said that the handyman died on the spot. The injured were rushed to district hospital Wokha while nine others were airlifted to Dimapur and admitted to CIHSR. PRO said that the district administration along with state police personnel rushed to the spot immediately after hearing the incident. He also added that CRPF nodal official assisted the team.
According to DIPR reports, the apparent cause of the accident seemed to be mechanical failure.
A new team of polling personnel along with polling materials/machinery from the reserve has been dispatched from Wokha district headquarters, DIPR said.
Further, deputy commissioner Wokha Ajit Kumar Ranjan assured that, if required, EVMs would be replaced from the reserve.
He added that all 15 received injuries, while five of them were seriously injured. He however informed that non were in critical situation. The PRO added that district administration and police personnel rushed to the spot immediately after hearing of the incident, whilst also adding that district medical team coordinated with them. He also added that CRPF nodal official assisted the team.
