16 teams to vie for Kengurüse trophy

A total of 17 teams have confirmed their participation for the upcoming 7th edition of Late Capt N Kengurüse, MVC, Memorial Football Tournament 2023 to be held from November 1 to 9 at IG Stadium.


The draw of lots for the fixture was held under the supervision of Nagaland Football Association (NFA) executives with media persons as the independent observers at Tsiesema Assam Rifles Camp on Thursday.
Also present during the event were representatives from Kohima District Football, referee and coaches associations and some teams.


Leading the event, Lt Colonel Bharat Mahouria, gave a brief highlight about the event and also shed light on the act of valour displayed by Late Capt Neikezhakuo Kengurüse who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil War.

Mahouria said Indian Army thought of giving a befitting homage to Capt N Kengurüse by organising the state level tournament. He pointed out that besides giving due recognition to the fallen soldier, the event was also aimed at creating a platform for the local talented players.


He said Capt Kengurüse was a hero not just for Nagaland but even in the whole country and therefore deserves more recognition.


He also gave a description of the event logo which was commissioned this year. Mahouria further informed that the drawing of lot for the fixture was held in order to maintain transparency.
