17th Peren Town inter-ward tournament kicks off

The 17th edition of Peren Town inter-ward tournament organised by Peren Town Youth Organisation (PTYO) kicked started on Wednesday at Peren Town local ground with PS to UDA Chairman, Azeu Namcyn Hau, as special guest. Football for men, volleyball for women and wrestling for under-12 will be played during the tournament.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Hau challenged the youths to cultivate the habit of “playing to win” at a young age. He was of the opinion that the maxim of “win or lose doesn’t really matter” is wrong because it matters to win if they are playing a game, for, to win is the goal.
While maintaining that although one cannot win all the time and how one plays the game also does matter, he said that ‘winning makes one realize what one is capable of which doesn’t happen when one merely play the game well and that it is still better to win”.
Sharing his thoughts on the ways and means to become successful in life, Hau said that a burning desire is the starting point of all accomplishments and just like a small fire cannot give much heat, a weak desire cannot produce great results.
Encouraging the youths to believe in their dreams and potential, he appealed them to keep believing and not lose faith in oneself.
Hau encouraged them to develop the quality of being a good sportsman which will help them in the long run to build teamwork, character, discipline, kindness, patience, resilience and perseverance.
Earlier, the inaugural program commenced with flag hoisting ceremony by the special guest while the tournament torch was lighted by Isizaibe, who was adjudged ‘Player of the Tournament’ during the 16th edition in 2021. Pastor of Peren Town Baptist Church (PTBC), Rev. Haiku Nza, invoked God’s blessings, welcome address was delivered by convenor of the organising committee, Nduzeu Herie,.
