2 convicted for stealing church money in Mon

Court of the Judicial Magistrate, Mon has convicted and sentenced two persons to two years rigorous imprisonment for breaking into Sheanghah Wamsa Baptist church and stealing over Rs. 2 lakhs on the night of July 1, 2022.
In a press note, assistant public prosecutor Mon, Yaomila Lotha, stated that the duo identified as Tahsei Konyak and Khamlong Konyak were arrested on July 3, 2022 by village guards and the stolen money was recovered. In his judgment, judicial magistrate Mon, B Peter Resu, observed that cases of theft were quickly mushrooming due to drug addiction, among many other reasons.
The court said that the churches within the district had unfortunately become a soft target for thieves and other criminal looking for a quick buck.
The incident was reportedly the third case registered in 2022 year with regard to church breaking in Mon district. The case was led by advocate Yaomila Lotha, assistant public prosecutor, Mon.
