Two sentenced to one year jail for robbery

The court of judicial magistrate first class, Kohima, Julian Sitlhou convicted and sentenced two accused Lhoulietuo Kire and Zelhoulie Mets to one year each of rigorous imprisonment under Section 392/34 IPC.
Delivering the judgement, the judicial magistrate first class, Kohima, Julian Sitlhou stated that since the robbery was committed in broad daylight, in the heart of the town, the court declined to extend benefits of probation of offenders Act as that would only “embolden the offenders” to commit similar offences in the future.
The court stated that it cannot lose sight of the fact that the two accused have committed the offence in pre-planned manner and that the sentence imposed should be proportionate to the gravity of the offence in order to deter them from committing similar offences.
It may be mentioned that the duo, on September 20, 2021, robbed a cash of Rs. 5 lakh from a Bolero, near the commissioner’s office, Kohima.
The case was registered at North Police station and was investigated by UBSI Yienpheih. K.
