‘Catch Them Young’ concludes

Mokokchung and Dimapur annexed the boy’s and girl’s football titles respectively here at the Football finals in Inter District Catch Them Young tournament.
In the final match played at IG Stadium Kohima on Friday, Mokokchung edged out Peren by a solitary goal in the boys final. In the Girls final Dimapur beat Phek 2-0.
In the athletics events, Phek emerged as the over group champions wining 7 gold medal, 2 silver and 4 bronze with 75 points, and the runner –up went to Dimapur with 2 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze with 33 points, Longleng won 2 silver and 2 bronze with 18 points, Mokokchung won 1 silver and 2 bronze with 13 points , Tuesang won 2 sliver with 10 points, Zuneheboto won 1 gold with 7 points and Mon won 1 bronze with 4 points. Shockingly Kohima, Wokha , Kiphire and Peren failed to win any medals in the athletics events.
In Badminton, the boys champion was bagged by Dimapur and runner-up Longleng, while the girls champion won by Dimapur and runner –up went to Tuensang. The final match was graced by Director, Youth Resources & Sports Nagaland, Bei-u Angami .Addressing the participants Bei-u Angami spoke about the importance of games and sports and encouraged the participants to continuously practice even when they go back to their respective districts. He said that only through dedicated practice a sportsperson will be able to reach not only state and national level but even international level. He directed all the District Sports Officers to look after the welfare of all the young sportsperson and encourage them to improve in their respective disciplines. He assured that the department will extend help and assistance wherever possible. He also distributed the prizes. The function was chaired by Deputy Director, Shihokhe Sumi while vote of thanks was proposed by Assistant Director, Neiyalie Angami.
