Three districts including Phek, Tuensang and Kiphire experienced power black out Saturday as the Meluri Youth Organization (MYO) shut down the 132kv Meluri power sub-station, in protest against the failure of the State government to fulfill the demand of MYO. MYO president Nyiwatho told Nagaland Post over phone that MYO shut down the sub-station Saturday around 6.30 a.m to protest the government’s failure to provide additional power to Meluri power sub-station. MYO had earlier in a representation submitted to chief engineer, Power, served an ultimatum to the Power Department to install 1.6mva 33/11 at the sub-station within October 17 failing which, the youth organization warned it would shut down the sub-station. Stating that the action of MYO had the full backing of all public of Meluri sub-division, MYO said the shut-down would continue till its demand was fulfilled. Meanwhile, MYO also appealed to people of the three-affected districts to bear with the inconvenience caused due to shut-down.
