Inter-dist volleyball tourney underway

DIMAPUR, OCT 21 (NPN): A four-day 14th Inter-District Volleyball Tournament organized by Nagaland Volleyball Association hosted by Dimapur District Volleyball Association (DDVA) kick started Tuesday at State Stadium, Dimapur. The inaugural function was graced by spokesman and treasurer BJP Nagaland, Basu Damani as chief guest.
Altogether, 14 teams (boys and girls) – eight district boys’ team and six district girls’ teams are taking part in the tourney.
In the first match of the day (boys), defending champion Mokokchung defeated Phek while in the second match, Dimapur defeated Phek. The match between Peren and Zunheboto which was abandoned due to darkness will be held Wednesday morning. In the girls match, Kohima overcame Mokokchung while Phek beat Dimapur.
Earlier, chief guest Basu Damani in his speech said that games and sports was played not only for physical fitness but through this events individual come closer to each other.
The chief guest also donated Rs.1000 each to the participating districts and Rs. 5000 to the organizers.
Meanwhile, DDVA vice president, S. Manen in his welcome address thanked NVA for granting permission to DDVA to host the tournament in the Dimapur district.

Loyem memorial trophy
Dimapur, Oct 21 (NPN): Charlie XI will take on Freeland Boys (CSUTT) in the final match of the 16th Loyem Memorial Trophy on October 23. On their way final Charlie XI defeated Nemkoliren 3-1, while Freeland Boys (CSUTT) overcame 164 Naga Regiment 2-1.
CAYSA meeting
Dimapur, OCT 21 (NPN): A meeting of Chokri Area Youth Sports Association (CAYSA) meeting which was schedule on October 24 has been pre-pone to October 23. This was informed in a press statement issued by the association general secretary, Vethitso Rhakho.
Royal Gold Cup
Dimapur, Oct 21 (NPN): The Royal Gold Cup organized by Royal Club, Kohima will be held only next year (2009) and not as mentioned earlier.
