Tour for Naga ex-servicemen

As part of ‘Op Sadbhavana’ an excursion of 15 ex-servicemen from Nagaland to Delhi and Shimla was flagged of by Maj Gen BK Chengappa, AVSM, COS 3 Corps Wednesday. The ex-servicemen would visit and interact senior army and civil dignitaries at Delhi and proceed to attend raising day on November 1, of 1st NAGA at Solan in Himachal Pradesh.
According major Anil Tripathi, GSO 2 for GOC, the visit would offer ESM to witness a new vibrant India and opportunities available in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. Similar visits for school boys of Nagaland are also being undertaken to motivate them for better careers in the main stream.
Among the tourists is Hav Sovehu (92) of 1st Assam Rifles who retired in 1948 due to injuries of bomb blast sustained in World War II. He fought battles at Jessami, Kohima, Imphal and in Burma against Japanese. He belongs to Phek village of Phek District and is living with his wife, children (12), grand children and great grand children. The enthusiasm of this war vetran is to be emulated by the youth today. The event has been organized by 164 Inf Bn TA (H & H) NAGA to honour the ex Servicemen of Nagaland. The group selected for excursion comprises of ESM of Naga Regiment, Assam Regt and Assam Rifles. Present on the occasion were Lt Col Omveer Singh, Offg CO 164 TA and other senior officers of Rangapahar Military Station.
