71.17 % of Manipur electorate photographed

Authorities in Manipur have already captured images of 71.17 percent of the total electors in Manipur despite hindrances and is planning to publish the final photo electoral rolls on January 10, 2009.
As per records available at the CEO’s office, images of about 12,33,916 electors which is 77.77 percent of the total electors have been captured till October 17.
The total number of elector of the state was 13,72,339 as per the electoral rolls published before the election to the state Assembly 2007. Authorities are yet to finalize the total electors of the state. The lower age limit of adult franchise in the country is 18 years.
The qualifying date for enrollment in the electoral rolls is January 1, 2009 and the latest final figure of the electors who could cast vote in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election could be known only after the final publication of the electoral rolls. In order to able to complete the special summary revision and publish the same on January 10, 2009, state chief electoral officer, CEO has sought co-operation of all the political parties operating in the state, official source said.
