Sehwag joins 6,000 run club

Virender Sehwag became the sixth Indian batsman to aggregate 6,000 runs or more in ODI’s during his unbeaten knock of 61.
Sehwag joined an elite league of Sachin Tendulkar (16372), who heads the table, followed by Sourav Ganguly (11363), Rahul Dravid (10585), Mohammad Azharuddin (9378), Yuvraj Singh (6435).
This would be a huge moment for a man who was kept out of the Indian team for almost all of last year before coming back with a stunning ton Down Under in the Test series in the dawn of 2008.
The destructive opening batsman has been in the thick of action right through the year in both forms of the game. Sehwah became the fourth fastest Indian batsman to knock off 6,000 runs in ODI’s, reaching the milestone in 190 innings. Ganguly heads the list, taking only 147 innings while Tendulkar and Dravid took up 170 and 171 innings respectively. It took Yuvraj 192 innings to reach the 6,000 run mark during the STAR Cricket Asia Cup while Azharuddin blasted them off in 205 innings.
Sehwag’s regular opening partner Gautam Gambhir, who came in to bat at number three against England on Sunday has extended his record for most runs in ODIs this year to 1109 at an average of 48.21, during the course of his unbeaten 30. His rich haul this year includes three hundreds and seven fifties in 27 matches.
