Cilic, Murray, Stepanek win titles

The dream run of India’s latest tennis sensation Somdev Devvarman in Chennai has ended on the final frontier. Third seed Croat Marin Cilic defeated Somdev 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the final to win this year’s ATP Chennai Open on Sunday. After losing the first set relatively easy, Somdev make a gallant fight in the second set but could not match the power of 6’6” Croat in the tie-breaker.
It was Somdev’s first ATP event final and he has reached there with imazing display of determination and grit in the last one week. On Saturday, Somdev’s semi-finals opponent Schuettler withdrew from the match with wrist injury to put the Indian into the final with an assured kitty of $37,000 as well as 150 ATP points. The haul is likely to push him into the range of 160 in the world rankings.
Devvarman on Sunday faced the fearsome task of playing his first big final in front of home crowd and with high expectation level putting him huge pressure to deliver. Along with the title, Cilic took home the winning prize of 250 ATP points and $73,000.
