Bandh called in protest against killing of youth

In the continuing search and destroyed mission, security forces in Manipur killed at least three militants in separate counter insurgency operations Tuesday night, officials said even as a district-wide general strike has been called in Thoubal district of Manipur against killing of a youth in an alleged “fake encounter”.
Two of them were killed in separate places in Imphal east district while the other in Thoubal district. A militant suspected to an activist of the People United Liberation Front (PULF) was killed by a team of police commandos at Keikhu village under Porompat police station, Imphal east Tuesday evening at around 6.30 pm.
Officials said a 9 mm pistol with four live rounds and four demand letter of the PULF outfit with a identity card issued by state MOBC minister Allauddin Khan designated as personal staff of the minister to one Md Ayub Ali son of Md Yasum were recovered found from the slain man.
Another militant was also killed by police commandos in a joint operation with troops of 34 AR at Sangai Yumpham in Thoubal district Tuesday night at around 7.35 pm. Police recovered a 9mm pistol with two live rounds, officials said.
Another youth suspected to be militant was also gunned down Tuesday night at around 6.30 pm at Seijang village in Imphal east by a combined force of police commandos and troops of 23 AR and recovered a 9mm pistol loaded with three live rounds.
Meanwhile, decrying the killing of a youth with alleged charge of murder after being picked by security forces in civil dress, a 48-hour general strike has been called in Thoubal district which would be effective from 6 am, January 15 according to reports in the local media Wednesday.
The bandh has been called in protest against killing of Moirangthem Tomba aged 30, son of late Tolchou of Langathel Lai Kom. Tomba, a timber dealer on January 11 was killed by a combined force of police commandos and troops of 21 AR at Angangching village in Thoubal district.
Locals of Langathel village alleged that Tomba had been picked up by suspected security men in civil dress in a Maruti van with no number plate while he was waiting for a bus to Kakching Khunou village.
