Spark CC lifts WCC championship again

Defending champion Spark Cricket Club defeated EYL by 58 runs to lift the coveted XIII winter cricket challenge trophy yet again played at Wokha local ground on Saturday. Electing to bat first, Spark CC set up a victory target of 139 runs all out. Opener Deepak (47), Nirbhay (19), Akrietou (16) and Badal (16) were the main contributors for the Sparks. Alam who claim three wickets led the bowling while Ponathung and Kumchen shared two wickets each for EYL.
Chasing the target, EYL batsmen were all bowled out for 80 runs in 17th over. None of the batsman were able to reach 20 runs. Deepak Singha was adjudged Man of the Match as well as man of the series.
The champion received a cash award of Rs.30,000, a trophy and a bottle of champagne, the runner-up were awarded Rs.20,000 while the two semi-finalists, GACC and Dirty Dozen CC were given Rs.5000 each. The man of the tournament received Rs.5000 and Nirbhay Singh was awarded Rs.1000 for the highest sixer in the tournament.
A.Rehman, convener, cricket development committee, NCA, speaking during the closing ceremony said “Wokha is indeed the cricket capital of Nagaland for which Wokha was selected for the historic first under 14 exhibition match”. He also mentioned that the first match in the history of cricket in Nagaland was played in Wokha.
The organizers also thanked Dr.Chumben Murry, minister for Agriculture, Thungjamo Lotha and sons, Col. Richard Blaise, CO 41 Assam Rifles, Khozamo Murry, Mhonchumo Yanthan, Sajivan Insurance, Abeni Humtsoe, NCA, WDWSA, Epibemo Yanthan, Leyanth N, A.Rehman and the volunteers for their contribution. The organizers also contributed the money which was collected at the entrance to the aid patients of the district.
