Rebels flee after gunfight

Security forces in follow up action to last night ambush to troops of BSF killing two jawans and injured to one Sunday afternoon clash with suspected cadres of the United National Liberation Front, UNLF at Khoidum hill in Thoubal district adjoining the Ethai village where yesterday ambush took place.
No casualty on both side reported till the time of filing this report even as further search operation to the escaping rebels are on.
At least two personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) killed while another injured in an ambush laid by the cadres of UNLF Saturday late evening at around 6 pm at a small market at Ethai Barrage in Bishnupur district. The Manipur People’s Army (MPA), an armed wing of the UNLF owned the ambush through the local media in Imphal today.
Today, a combined team of Thoubal district police commandos and troops of 21 Assam Rifles engaged in gunfight with well armed suspected cadres of the UNLF rebels at Khoidum Hill at around 1.30 pm but no casualty reported in the brief gunfight. A police officer here said that the combined force rushed to the area on getting tip-off of presence of some militants in the area who were involved in Saturday evening ambush.
With heavy reinforcement of security forces under the supervision of the Thoubal district SP, the area where the rebels are believed to escape has been kept cordon and search operation has been launched, the police officer said.
