NPVFA lifts veteran football title

Nagaland Police Veterans Football Association (NPVFA), Wednesday lifted the 1st Inter District Veterans Football Tournament after defeating Mokokchung District Veterans Football Association 2-0, played at local ground, Kohima.
Dominating the match from the word go, Senti opened the account for Nagaland Police Veterans when his 28th minute header through Kihoto cross found the net.
Displaying his technique and skills, crowd favorite and player of the tournament Policemen striker Yambemo grounded home the second goal when his volley beat Mokokchung custodian after Tia Wabang pass in the 40th minute. The officials for the final match were Lhousalie Thepa(main referee), Lhouliebie-o Khezhie and Kevilelie (both assistant referees) and Neikuto (4th referee).
The prizes were given away by Dr. Nicky Kire, MLA and chairman NKVIB, who was the guest of honour. In his address, Dr. Nicky hoped that all the districts will join the tournament in the coming years and said that the tournament has brought many players of yesteryears together, who played together many years back.
Earlier on Tuesday, in the third and fourth place play off, Peren District Veterans Football Association (PDVFA) defeated Phek District Veterans Football Association (PDVFA) 4-2 vie tie breaker, after both teams remained 1-1 in the regulated time.
Altogether eight teams from different districts of the state participated in the week long tournament, organized by Nagaland Police Football Association.
