Aizawl sees increase in voters

The final list of photo electoral rolls special summary revision was today notified by Aizawl deputy commissioner which saw an increase of electors by 2,949, a 1.30 per cent rise.
Including 1,365 service voters, there are 2,30,032 voters in Aizawl district’s 14 Assembly constituencies of which 1,18,180 are female and 1,10,497 are male voters. The female voters outnumbered their male counterparts by 7,406.
The special summary revision started with the notification of draft electoral roll on January 5, 2009. Submission of claims and objections was open till January 20.
The Aizawl DC thanked all EROs/AEROs, village councils, NGOs, political parties and all other officials concerned for their tireless efforts in completing the special summary revision.
Aizawl South-II constituency saw the largest number of deletion of voters’ names (482) while in Chalfilh constituency only 120 names were deleted.
In 12 of the 14 constituencies, female voters outnumbered male voters and only in two constituencies of Chalfilh and Aizawl South-III male electors outnumbered female electors.
Aizawl North-I and Tuivawl constituencies saw the highest percentage of voters increase at 2.88 per cent while Aizawl West-II had the lowest percentage of voters’ increase – 0.18 per cent.
On an average, each of the 14 constituencies have 785.06 voters.
The election department is making all-out efforts to ensure that each voter has EPIC, the official statement said.
At present, Aizawl West-II constituency has the highest EPIC coverage as 96.90 per cent of the voters and the lowest EPIC coverage is seen in Tuivawl constituency with 90.40 per cent of the voters having EPIC.
Among the polling stations, Ramhlun South-III and Nursery Veng polling stations have 100 per cent EPIC coverage while Zokhawthiang PS has 81.30 per cent EPIC coverage.
