Nagaland small tea growers meeting held

Nagaland Small Tea Growers (NSTG) in a meeting held January 13 at tourist lodge, Dimapur deliberated on pros and cons with regards to the programme for small tea grower with special preference to North East India for control of Jhum Cultivation in hilly areas implemented under union ministry of commerce and industry.
The members viewed that in spite of the union ministry’s special package and encouragement to eradicate shifting cultivation through plantation of tea, which was to be followed by payment of subsidy from the government, tea board of India has neglected Nagaland small tea growers’ for release of subsidy which were already sanctioned and fresh applied subsidy for 10th Plan period.
In this connection, the house unanimously adopted resolution to form an association under the nomenclature of “Nagaland Small Tea Growers Association” comprising of all 11 districts of Nagaland, and elect house bearers including president, secretary and treasurer.
According to a release jointly issued by NSTGA president, D. Hukiye Kibami and secretary I. Imi Yaden the house resolved to submit a memorandum to union ministry of commerce and industry for release of pending subsidies for the period of 10th five years plan under the programme of tea cultivation for control of Jhum cultivation in hilly areas.
Members also resolved that all small tea growers who were pursuing for plantation subsidy within the 10th plan were requested to be a member of the association with a nominal fee of Rs. 100 for pursuing of long pending subsidy. It has also informed members of small tea growers’ who were pursuing for subsidy to contact their respective district in-charge.
