CIH Medziphema imparts trg to Mizo farmers

With the request from department of horticulture, Mizoram the Central Institute of Horticulture, (CIH) Medziphema organized a four- day training of trainers on ‘protected cultivation’ at Aizawl, Mizoram from February 4 to 7.
K. Lalduhawma, depu-ty director, horticulture chaired the inaugural programme. R. Zotawna, joint director of horticulture speaking as chief guest said greenhouse technology enabled farmers to grow healthy and better quality plants in a small space and continuous production even during off-season, the department had introduced the technology only a few years back and now a good number of farmers are into the interest, he said.
He thanked the Director of CIH for organizing the training in the interest of the local growers.
Experts from Horti-culture Training Centre (HTC), Pune, Vishwas Jadhav and Nisamani from Zopar Pvt. Ltd. took over the entire technical session and deliberated on various important topics like site selection and basics of greenhouses, design and installation of irrigation system, cultivation of roses, anthurium, orchid, capsicum and tomatoes, fertigation, pests and diseases and their control measures, soil less cultures, harvesting and packaging of flowers and vegetables, marketing and their economics. Ethel Ngullie, technical consultant, CIH and officials from department of Horticulture, Mizoram coordinated the programme.
The training was attended by 72 growers from different districts of Mizoram. The training ended successfully with a good response from participants. The joint director horticulture presented certificates to participants on the final day of the training.
