Army solicits media assistance

Already in the process of implementing various projects including the SAMBHAVNA and micro hydel projects, the Army has solicited assistance/feedbacks from the media fraternity in identifying the local requirements and for effective implementation of the various projects.
Interacting with the media fraternity at 3 Corps headquarters Rangapahar, Chief of Staff (CoS) Headquarters 3 Corps, Maj General, Sarabjit Pawar disclosed that the Army was now in the process of implementing various projects under which various initiatives like education of the youth have been included. “We will need assistance and feedbacks from the media so that we can make the lives of the people a little more comfortable”, he said. He also requested the media to provide inputs and offer proposals so that the Army could make the projects a successful one.
Asked on the reported drying up of funds in the Army for such projects, the CoS refuted it as “not true”. “In fact we are getting more funds, focus and continuous support” he said.
Replying to a question on whether the Army possessed enough expertise in setting up of micro hydel projects, he said that it might not have the expertise but that it would also rely on the local support.
On the gross violation of cease-fire between the government of India and the Naga underground groups, the CoS reminded the union home minister P. Chidambaram’s recent statement during his visit to the state that the ceasefire ground rules would have to be “followed in totality”. In Manipur, he quoted the home minister as saying that the militants has no place there.
The CoS also claimed that the situation at NC Hills in Assam had “improved tremendously” and that as per direction, the Army was launching all operations against the DHD (J) militants. Asked how he could claim that the situation had improved despite the continuous killings, the CoS said the militants were now indulging in “goondaism” whereby they assault each others’ relatives within their own group. He said the militants were still functioning but on the run now.
Army officers from Manipur, media persons from Dimapur, Kohima and Assam attended the interaction.
