The BJP on Sunday evening expelled former finance minister of Madhya Pradesh Raghavji Bhai from the primary membership of the party after his domestic help Rajkumar Dangi charged sodomy by the veteran leader. Raghavji was forced to resign from the Shivraj Singh Chouhan cabinet on Friday.
State BJP president Narendra Singh Tomar called an emergency press conference at 6:30pm on Sunday to announce Raghavji’s expulsion from the party primary membership. Tomar said, “For the past two days, an issue involving Raghavji was before us and we came to know that an affidavit has been submitted in a police station by the complainant. This morning, the same complainant appeared before the media and later went to Habibgunj police station to record his statement.’’
Following the developments of Sunday morning, the state BJP called a meeting of all leaders including chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former chief minister Sundarlal Patwa, national vice-president Prabhat Jha, Rajya Sabha MP Anil Dave and state party chief Narendra Singh Tomar. The meeting decided to expel former finance minister Raghavji from the primary membership of the party. This decision was necessary and we took the step,’’ Tomar added.
Immediately following the expulsion, the police registered an FIR against the sacked minister under sections 377 (carnal intercourse against the order of nature), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. Complainant Rajkumar Dangi in his affidavit had also mentioned the involvement of a Sher Singh Chouhan, another domestic help on the finance minister’s residence who introduced him to the minister. The police FIR named Raghavji, Sher Singh Chouhan and a Suresh Chouhan as the accused.
Meantime, expelled Raghavji was celebrating his 80th birthday in his constituency in Vidisha. Though the whole BJP kept away from the celebrations, Raghavji claimed to his supporters that he would contest the upcoming November elections. He even affirmed his participation in the monsoon session of the assembly starting on Monday.
But in the Bhopal BJP headquarters, state party chief Narendra Singh Tomar said, “He is out of the BJP and the cabinet. And if he is not part of the BJP, he is not our legislator.’’
Man accusing Raghavji of sodomy turns up
PTI adds: Rajkumar Dangi, the youth who has accused the former Madhya Pradesh Finance Minister Raghavji of sexually exploiting him, on Sunday appeared before the media at senior Congress leader Ajay Singh’s official residence in Bhopal.
Dangi alleged before reporters that Raghavji sexually exploited him for last three-and-half years and also threatened him with dire consequences if he revealed it to anybody.
He alleged that Raghavji continued to sexually exploit him by promising to provide him a government job.
He said that he will again go to the police station for registering an FIR in the case and for recording statement in the matter. Dangi also alleged that besides Raghavji, his two other associates were also involved in such acts.
The youth admitted that he had informed BJP leader Shiv Shankar Pateria about Raghavji’s acts and he had motivated him to make a CD of it and provided a device worth Rs 6,000 for the purpose.
Dangi said since he “exposed” a very powerful BJP leader, he feared for his life and soon after filing a report in the matter he went underground because of threats.
He denied his father’s claims that he was mentally disturbed and had earlier also threatened and blackmailed other persons in a similar manner.
“It seems that my father must have been brought here by BJP leaders under pressure and after issuing him lot of threats,” he alleged.
Late on Saturday night, Dangi’s father Bhujbal Singh Dangi arrived from Tamaoia village in Vidisha district to the Habibgang police station here and gave a statement to police that his son was a habitual complainant and had made similar allegations against a retired patwari in the past.
“I know Raghavji kept him like his son and the allegations against him are false,” Bhujbal told reporters after recording his statement with the police.
