Delhi Association of Manipur Muslim Students (DAMMS), Manipur Students’ Association, Delhi (MSAD), North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS), United Kakching Association of Students (UNIKAS) Tuesday held a candle light march at Arts Faculty, North Campus, Delhi University for peace and harmony in Manipur.
In a joint press release, the organizations appealed the different communities in the state to harmoniously reconcile their differences through dialogue. While stating that there should be a mechanism of dialogue and consultations between different communities, the organisations said that the move to create new districts should have been taken with the consent of all communities and the state should have consulted different groups before deciding on the issue.
The gathering also condemned the “role of Manipur Government for creating such a situation where different communities found themselves at loggerheads with each other.”
At the rally, the speakers requested the different organisations to lift the economic blockade and counter-blockade to ease the hardship borne by the poor and labouring masses of all communities.
They also called on the authorities to unconditionally release all the arrested leaders of different communities to facilitate dialogue and consultation among communities. The democratic rights of any individual or community to protest against the present decision of Manipur government should be upheld, the speakers maintained.
They also called upon the government of Manipur to take immediate measures to facilitate dialogue to overcome trust-deficit between different communities.
