Western Sümi Baptist Akukhou Küqhakulu (WSBAK), Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), Lions and Leo Club of Dimapur and Christina Memorial Higher Secondary School (CMHSS) celebrated Teachers’ Day by organising special programmes on September 5.
Advisor, School Education, K T Sukhalu, who graced the programme at Chekiye Village Baptist Church organised by WSBAK, reminded the teachers that their role was not only to educate the students, but also to build their character. The advisor pointed out that the government will make policies, but it was the duty of teachers to bring changes in the generation.
He further exhorted the teachers to forsake bad habits and urged to start taking responsibility to mould students, and not to compromise on quality.
He lamented that Sümis have more teachers, but lacked behind others in education, and questioned whether “Sümis were working for salary”. Stating that enrolment of students had drastically decreased among government schools in Sümi region, he said it was discouraging to see children not being sent to government schools.
Sukhalu also assured the congregation to the representation letter submitted by Chikiye Village Council, to construct the school building at the government school in the village.
It was learned that students were currently taking classes at the building of Primacy Health Care centre, as there was no school building.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by secretary, department of women ministry, WSBAK, Kakheli Inato Jimo, while blessing prayer for the teachers were offered by Sr. pastor, TVBC, Rev. Dr. Hevukhu Achumi.
Short speeches were also delivered by president, WSH, Shikaho Zhimomi, president, WSKH, Vihuto Yepthomi, and Sr. SDEO (SEO charge), Kisheli Shikhu.
AKM: The ‘60th Teacher’s Day celebration 2021’, was organised by AKM at Town Hall, Mokokchung with (retd. principal) Akok Walling as the key speaker.
In his speech, Walling said that till late 1990s, “teachers were metaphorically described as walking encyclopaedias but, today, they are best described as Data Bank”.
He said teachers of today must be able to keep up with the vast advancement in the digital technology in order to mould the delicate minds of the future. The speaker also praised the efforts of the teachers during the pandemic by conducting “online classes”.
Earlier, a short speech was delivered by DC Mokokchung, Limawabang Jamir and the welcome note was delivered by AKM president, Nungdokyanger Ao while vote of thanks was said by AKM education eecretary, Chubameren Imchen.
Lions and Leo Club of Dimapur: 35 teachers from different schools in Dimapur were felicitated at the felicitation ceremony organised by Lions & Leo Club of Dimapur at Lions Centre on September 5.
The ceremony was presided by Lion president, Vikas Maheshwari.
The programe was organised under the chairmanship of Lion Nownit Ajmera and Leo Rashika Jain.
CMHSS: CMHSS celebrated the day by organising a short programme at its school premises on September 4. The programme was attended by the teachers, faculty, managing board and well-wishers of the school.
Short speech was delivered by Aoyimti pastor Temsu Jamir, where he acknowledged the role and hard work of the teachers.
He also congratulated the school for the outstanding report and prayed for many more such achievements in the near future.
On the occasion, the school also gave away the “best teacher” award, which was bagged by Imtinaro Ao. The teachers were presented with gifts as a token of appreciation.
