Narendra Modi, Amit Shah address rallies in Manipur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah campaigned in Manipur as political parties now focus on electioneering in the second and final phase of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to be held on March 5.
Voting will be held in 22 Assembly constituencies spread over 10 districts of the state in the second and final phase,
As a maximum of 10 constituencies are in Thoubal and Kakching (carved out from Thoubal) districts, political parties, particularly the BJP, are concentrating in these two districts.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed people of 22 Assembly constituencies virtually where he came down heavily on the Congress which the party considered the only strong rival.
Criticizing Congress, Modi said that Manipur was just a haven for corruption for them. (Congress)
He said the party kept the state far away from peace and prosperity and did nothing to develop Manipur.
Claiming that people of the state saw the light of development only when the BJP came to power in the state, he said, “Congress was responsible for separatism in the state in the name of hill and valley.”
The then Congress government was not focused on development of the state but on looting Manipur, he added.
The state was in hands of such leaders who were known to be called ‘Mr 10 per cent’ on the account of their corruption, Modi said in a dig at state Congress leader and former three-time chief minister O Ibobi Singh. The BJP government wants development for all, linking each part of Manipur with the rest of the nation, he asserted.
He said that the double engine government has brought about development in the state and that balanced development of Manipur was the priority of BJP. The Act East Policy has been a new impetus to the development of Manipur,” he added.
On the other hand, Union home minister Amit Shah who arrived in Imphal on Tuesday pledged to establish peace in Manipur by initiating talks with all rebel groups operating in the state.
Addressing a party poll rally at Heirok in Thoubal district, Amit Shah assured to establish peace in Manipur by initiating talks with all underground groups operating in the state. He also asserted that all smuggling activities will come to an end in Manipur. “We will make Manipur “drug-free” within the next five years,” he said.
The Union home minister also criticized Congress party, stating that the then Congress government led by O Ibobi Singh had even failed to provide tap water connection to 5% households.
He criticized Congress stating that the party did nothing for the welfare of the people in 15 years of its rule in the state. Only 5 % households get tap water connections all these years. This is the hard evidence, he said.
He further claimed that in the last five year rule of the BJP-led coalition government, tap water connections were provided to more than 57% households.
Hitting back at the allegation of the Congress over the hike in the prices of goods, particularly on vehicle fuels and LPG, Shah said that people would not forget the artificial price hike in the state due to the frequent bandh and blockade on the national highways.
“I would like to remind you Ibobiji that during your tenure the price of LPG shot up to Rs 3000 (a refilled cylinder), Rs 300 per liter of petrol,” he said.
