DIMAPUR: Higher & Technical Education (H&TE) organised a farewell programme in honour of its retiring commissioner & secretary, W. Honje Konyak, at the directorate of Technical Education, Kohima on Wednesday.
According to a DIPR report, minister for Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along in his speech stated that Honje Konyak was the best commissioner & secretary that he as a politician has worked with.
Along wished Honje Konyak a wonderful tenure as chairman of NPSC and added that he was one Konyak leader who was working for the whole Nagas.
The minister expressed belief that he would be taking the same outlook as chairman of NPSC.
Expressing hope that the department of Higher Education and Technical Education would chart new ventures for young minds of Nagaland, he called upon all the officers and staff to work together for the people.
Even though the department was not a revenue generating department, Along stated that it was a human resource development department that would “determine the revenue, economic prosperity, and peaceful co-existence in the state.”
Meanwhile, advisor for Technical Education and Election, Medo Yhokha shared about his acquaintance with Honje Konyak when the latter was the deputy commissioner (DC) of Kohima.
Yhokha said Honje Konyak as a DC among the present generation had heavily influenced the calm and peace in Kohima.
He congratulated him on being appointed as the chairman of NPSC and stated that with his integrity, ability and determination for solving problems, there was a bright future for the youth.
Delivering his farewell speech, W. Honje Konyak said that he worked in the department for 10 months and whatever was achieved during that period was not an individual achievement but teamwork.
Sharing that his father was the first convert to Christianity in his village and the first deacon, the retired commissioner & secretary said that he also shared and reaped this fruit.
He urged upon the Higher Education and Technical Education departments to work continuously for the upliftment of the society.
While thanking the outgoing officer for his contribution to the department, director, Higher Education, Dr. Katoni Jakhalu said W. Honje Konyak worked with keen interest and with his vast knowledge and experience, he took up the challenges which provided a much needed boost to the department.
She expressed gratitude to the retiring officer for being the architect of the state’s NEP 2020.
Later, director, Technical Education, Er. Mhaseto Nakro said that Honje Konyak’s work culture inspired them and expressed sadness to see him go.
The programme was chaired by additional director, Higher Education, Dr. Lily Sema who also delivered concluding remarks while invocation was said by additional director, Technical Education, Er. Vipulhou Lhoungu.
