As part of the 1st phase plantation drive, The Entrepreneurs Association (tEA) planted 8 lakh native oak trees in a single day at Thetsumi Village, under Phek district on February 19.
tEA informed that the plantation drive was conducted to reclaim barren community lands for reforestation.
In collaboration with the village leaders, the drive witnessed the participation of all the four khels or colonies of the village with 520 individuals driven by the aspiration to plant 1 billion fruit trees and 2 billion non fruit trees by 2050 under ‘Trees for Wealth movement’.
CEO, tEA, Neichute Doulo also took part in the program who acknowledged the coming together for a noble cause concerning the environment and commented it as significant step towards planting 2 billion non-fruit trees, showcasing Nagaland’s dedication to global tree planting efforts.
Chairman, Thetsumi Village Council, Vetshe Tsuzuh in his message heralded the initiative, admitting that “45% of the village land have remained barren for years”. Tsuzuh added that MouU will be formalized with tEA to safeguard trees planted today for the next 25 years, ensuring they remain untouched by external exploitation.
As per the press release from the executive director, The Entrepreneurs Association, Neikule Doulo, the village council declared a local school holiday to ensure participation from all age groups.
“The Trees for Wealth” movement has been underway in Nagaland and Manipur, with over 20 lakh fruit trees and non-fruit trees planted so far with a goal to transform rural landscape in the North East Region.
