Department of School Education (DoSE) in collaboration with Dream A Dream, organised a state level workshop on Need Assessment for Social and Emotional Wellbeing Intervention (NASEWI) in government schools Kohima at Morung Hall, DoSE, here of Friday.
Special guest for the workshop, commissioner & secretary, School Education, Kevileno Angami, in her speech acknowledged the team from Dream A Dream for helping out the department in realising the visions set in the National Education Policy 2020.
She emphasised that the social wellbeing finding of students and teachers of Nagaland was a significant pathway for addressing social emotional issues of students and teachers.
Kevileno also highlighted on creating an enabling environment and supportive ecosystem to help students coming from socially adverse backgrounds to thrive and be successful. In a short remark principal director, Thavasaleen K, said social emotional learning was a key component to make education inclusive and meaningful to build better relationships and a thriving society. He emphasised that failure was an inevitable part of success and through it people learn how to bounce back at the same time helps people to be resilient and stay emotionally relevant and connected with one’s own support system.
He said Dream a Dream proposal for developing “Social Wellbeing Curriculum” was a great support for making collaboration meaningful and highly appreciative for the state education system.
In coordination with the DoSE, Dream a Dream will be initiating a social and emotional well-being intervention in 176 public schools across 16 districts since there is need to gain an understanding of the status of well-being and the factors that affect it, through a need assessment.
The specific objectives of the assessment was to understand the social and emotional well-being status of the students in government schools and the contextual factors that affect it and to understand the social and emotional well-being of teachers. In the workshop, Dr. Sreehari Ravindranath and Dr. Joseph Thomas presented the findings and recommendations.
A special number was presented by students of Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire GHSS, while Sharique Mashhadi from Dream a Dream delivered the concluding remarks. During the event, a book titled, “Social and Emotional Well-being of Students in Nagaland” was also released.
