Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president and Lok Sabha candidate, S Supongmeren Jamir, alleged that the BJP-led NDA government was all set to wipe out secularism from the county.
Speaking at his candidature declaration cum campaign kick-off programme at Town Hall here Saturday, organised by Mokokchung District Congress Committee (MDCC), Supongmeren Jamir alleged that BJP government was targeting the Christian faith and the other minorities in the country, which he said could be seen in the “forceful replacement” of religious holidays and renaming of places and institutions on mere pretext.
INC candidate has, therefore, appealed to the people to vote for him in order to protect ‘secularism’ and bring about a change in the country.
Jamir stated that the upcoming parliamentary election was being fought not on “political policies” but on the grounds of faith and ideology.
He said that the faith, traditions and customs of the minorities were gradually being threatened and destroyed by the BJP-led NDA government and its allies, which included the PDA government of Nagaland.
Earlier, short speeches were delivered by ex-MLA Toshipokba, NPCC Mokokchung in-charge, S Moa Imchen, NPCC public grievances department co-chairman, Meshenlo Kath, NPCC secretary Imkongmeren Jamir and Imli Jamir. The programme was chaired by DCC vice-president Lanusanen and welcome address was delivered by DCC president Watimongba Aier Baptist Church Pastor, Teyalo Seb, offered invocation.
