Padma Shri Sano Vamuzo honoured on arrival

Sano Vamuzo, wife of former chief minister of Nagaland late Vamuzo Phesao, who received the Padma Shri Award 2024, in the field of Social Service on Friday, arrived Dimapur Saturday.


Sano Vamuzo, (83 years) is a Social Worker and Educationist from Nagaland and received the Padma Shri Award from the President of India, Droupadi Murmu during the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on May 9, 2024 acknowledging for spearheading peace campaign and championing women’s representation.


On her arrival, she was honoured at Dimapur airport by well-wishers, family members, various organizations namely Naga Mothers Association (NMA), Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD), Chakhesang Mothers Association (CMA), Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH), Western Chakhesang Mothers Association (WCMA), Western Chakhesang Youth Organization (WCYO), Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) and Zeliang Mipui organization (ZMO).
She is also the former chairperson of the Nagaland Women Commission and founding member of Naga Mother’s Association.


Speaking to media, Sano expressed gratitude to all who have prayed for her and also who supported her journey.
Sano attributed her success to the support of elders and encouraged young mothers and girls to serve their communities and said that receiving such a prestigious award should be seen as challenge to do more and work harder for the betterment of society.


Sano highlighted the importance of supporting each other and called upon women of all ages to contribute positively to their families, communities, and society at large. And encouraged them to be proactive and helpful, emphasizing that women are not meant to create problems but to be agents of positive change.


She also emphasized the importance of helping those in need and loving one’s neighbors, drawing from Christian teachings “Love the Lord with all your heart, mind and soul and to help our neighbours who are in need”.


Drawing insight into the formation and work of the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), which has played a significant role in promoting peace and unity in the region, Sano mentioned that NMA have always addressed on political disunity and differences of opinion within the community and advocated for peace, unity, and understanding. In this regard, she also emphasised the need to tolerate differences and uphold the principle of love.


Asked about challenges and priorities, Sano acknowledged the challenges and obstacles faced in life, particularly for mothers, and stressed the importance of balancing family responsibilities with contributing to society.


On Mother’s Day message, Sano advised mothers to prioritize their families while also contributing to society and also highlighted the importance of children as assets to society and the need to navigate the competitive modern world while maintaining a balance.
