LVC, NZPO object to establishing Aqahuto EAC HQ

Lamhai Village Council (LVC) and Nagaland Zeliang People Organization (NZPO) have raised objection to laying of a foundation stone for establishment of the “Aqahuto EAC HQ” on August 9, 2024.

LVC: LVC chairman Haibamko and head GB Lungsileu expressed dismay and clarified that there is no area known as “Aqahuto” under the jurisdiction of Lamhai village, the place where the foundation stone was reportedly laid by minister PHE & Cooperation Jacob Zhimomi.

LVC also asked whether there was any government approval or cabinet decision for the creation of such an EAC headquarters, and if not, questioned the legality of establishing an EAC headquarters based solely on the whims of a cabinet minister.

Further, LVC claimed since there was no recognised Sumi village it was unbelievable that there was a need for an EAC headquarters in that location. LVC demanded immediate action against the minister responsible for laying the foundation stone and for its removal failing LVC will be compelled to take necessary actions to seek justice.

NZPO: Nagaland Zeliang People Organization (NZPO) also raised objections against the laying of the foundation stone by minister PHE & Cooperation Jacob Zhimomi for Aqahuto EAC Headquarters in Chümoukedima district, on land traditionally belonging to Lamhai village without the village’s consent.
NZPO president Kevipele Iheilung, emphasized that no information was given nor permission was sought from the Lamhai village authorities prior to the erection of the foundation stone. He also said the event was not covered in the media.

NZPO claimed it has been ascertained that the cabinet had made no decision regarding the establishment of the Aqahuto EAC HQs. It said even if such a decision were to be considered, it would require taking into confidence all affected stakeholders. NZPO said that such arbitrary actions taken by the minister cannot be excused.

NZPO therefore urged the state government to take immediate action to dismantle the foundation stone and evict occupants residing near and around the foundation stone.
