Countdown has begun for the 25th Hornbill Festival, which brings tourists from around the world to the ten-day celebration annually organised at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama from December 1-10. Extensive renovations works are currently underway at the Heritage Village.
Speaking to Nagaland Post regarding the preparations for the event, minister for tourism Temjen Imna Along informed that the state government was taking positive steps to transform Kisama into a world-class Heritage Village.
Along highlighted the remarkable development of the Hornbill Festival over the years. From its humble beginning 25 years ago, he said the festival has evolved to the Heritage Village, representing a significant achievement.
The minister noted that the festival embodied the unity of the Nagas through their tradition, culture, and music, showcasing the unique qualities of the Naga tribes.
He said the progress has been significant under the leadership of chief minister Neiphiu Rio. “It has truly taken a big leap in its journey to becoming an international festival today,” Along said.
“From our humble beginnings under former chief minister SC Jamir to where we are today, we have come a long way, and that is our greatest achievement,” he stated.
Among the development works being carried out, he said an amphitheatre designed to accommodate over 7,000 people in a modern style was being constructed.
He said that this year promises many new and unique experiences. Along encouraged the public to share their ideas and experiences, assuring that suggestions and changes were always welcome.
Asked about traffic management during the ten-day festival, the minister assured that there would be improved traffic regulations. He said that the traffic and home departments were doing their best to manage traffic, despite last year’s significant congestion.
The minister appealed to the public to be mindful of traffic issues and encouraged adopting smart practices such as carpooling with friends and family and utilizing public transportation. He underscored the importance of public responsibility.
Along said that more tourists were expected this year, adding that the department was aiming to exceed last year’s attendance of over 150,000. He announced that this year’s country partner would be Wales. He expressed hope that this year’s hornbill festival would attract many international visitors.
Minister informed that the tourism department along with its allied departments was collaborating and doing their best to ensure a grand celebration and the success of the 25th Hornbill Festival celebration.
