BJP to launch membership drive on September 2
BJP state president Benjamin Yepthomi reaffirmed that the concerns of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) were deep-rooted, genuine, and legitimate, expressing confidence that a solution would be found out very soon. Addressing the media at his residence here on Monday, Benjamin acknowledged that the issues required swift resolution.
He hoped that a solution to the ENPO issue was not far from now, assuring that it would be resolved under the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
“It is only under the BJP government that the ENPO issue will be resolved,” he asserted, expressing solidarity with the people of ENPO.
Admitting that ENPO’s demands impacted the entire state, he reiterated his optimism that the BJP leadership would solve the issue. On the status of elected BJP councilors who were not given portfolios in the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), Benjamin described the issue as sensitive and refrained from commenting further.
He however assured that the situation would be resolved soon. Regarding the ongoing power outages in the state, especially in Dimapur, he mentioned that he would bring the matter to the attention of the Prime Minister.
Referring to landslides and rockfall incidents on NH-29, he disclosed that these matters had been discussed in the party’s quarterly coordination meetings and that the party was actively looking into them.
Dwelling on the upcoming Sadasyata Abhiyan (membership drive), the state BJP president announced that while the drive would officially commence on September 1 across India, Nagaland BJP would start the initiative on September 2 since September 1was a Sunday, and end on September 25. He revealed that the second phase would commence from October 1 to 15.
He explained that the objective of the membership drive was to connect directly with the people of Nagaland, particularly at the grassroots level, adding that he, along with other party officials, would embark on a statewide tour to engage directly with the public.
He reiterated the party’s commitment to ensuring that the membership process was transparent and authentic, focusing only on genuine participation, rather than mere numbers.
Benjamin said the BJP aimed to highlight various schemes implemented by the NDA government under Modi’s leadership, raise awareness about achievements, and encourage people to join the party in working towards the vision of “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047, marking the centenary of India’s independence.
On the current number of BJP members/workers in the state, he revealed that, as per 2019 report, the party had around 2.15 lakh workers in the state, of which 80,000 to 90,000 were active members, and remainder primary members.
He clarified that there was no specific target for the current membership drive, but hoped that the numbers would exceed. He claimed that the party would only focus on real and legitimate membership and not mere numbers.
