Wildlife Week 2024: CL John calls for collective responsibility to preserve and protect wildlife

On the eve of the commencement of Wildlife Week 2024, minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (EF&CC), C. L. John, has stressed on the importance of collective responsibility in preserving and protecting wildlife.

The Wildlife Week 2024 would be observed from October 2-8, 2024 on the theme, “Wildlife Conservation Through Coexistence.” In his message, CL John extended greetings to the people of the state and called upon all to reaffirm the duty to protect and preserve natural heritage.

Highlighting the state’s progress in wildlife conservation, the minister expressed pride in the growing number of community reserves that have been established across nearly 200 villages. John described the initiative as a demonstration of the state’s commitment to wildlife protection.

He also pointed out the international recognition received for the successful conservation of the Amur Falcon, a migratory bird, which has become a symbol of the state’s conservation efforts. John urged all the responsible individuals, schools, village institutions, and civil society organizations to actively participate in the various programmes.

The minister expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, particularly the schools, whose timely participation in pre-celebration competitions paved the way for the national-level entries.
Further, the minister urged the public to rededicate themselves to the cause of nature and environmental conservation. Wildlife Week 2024 promises to be a meaningful occasion, emphasizing coexistence between humans and nature as a cornerstone of conservation efforts.

The environment, forest, and climate change (EF&CC) department has planned a series of events and programmes to engage various sections of society. Activities such as awareness campaigns, quizzes, painting and debate competitions, talk shows, a “Run for Nature,” and a sports meet would be organized. Additionally, articles focusing on wildlife conservation would be published in local newspapers to spread awareness.
