Nagaland: MoU inked to reserve forest at Chuchuyimlang

In a significant development, Chuchuyimlang village has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Forest department, to reserve a 200 hectare (Chuchuyimlang village Community Reserve Forest).


The MoU was signed under the village council chairmanship of Aosanen Pongen and DFO, Mokokchung, Dr. Sentila, in the presence of Noklutoshi Longkumer MLA and the village community. The MoU will be a period of five years, which will be extendable.


The initiative aims to preserve the flora and fauna, and the rich bio-diversity which the community has been practicing for the past 10 years.


To ensure the protection of wild life, according to the chairman, Aosanen Pongen, hunting and shooting practices have been totally banned in the reserve forest and air rifles has also been in the village jurisdiction.


Sanen further said that eco-tourism will be promoted, not only to boost the conservation project but also to provide livelihood opportunities for the community.
