Nagaland: CNCCI responds to DMC on tax issue

Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) has reacted to the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC)’s response to the concerns raised by the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).

Reacting to the DMC statement that though it was not obligatory on the part of the civic body to consult other organisation, CNCCI responds to DMC on tax issue
in a rejoinder issued by its chairman Dr.Khekugha Muru and general secretary Dr.Seyievilie pointed to a government order which states that “the Administrator of all urban local bodies will take step for including the representative from business community of their cities/towns in their advisory committee for taking decisions in respect to various business related activities”.

Basing its previous advise to ULBs to consult trade and business bodies, CNCCI said it was incumbent on the ULBs to take the business community on board in matters pertaining to businesses. It cautioned that “ non-compliance” would amount to contempt of government and “cause embarrassment to the state government.”

Over the concerns raised by DCCI with regard to collection and taxation concerns which the DMC termed as “speculative and unwarranted”, the CNCCI urged the DCCI to urgently put forth its grievances to the DMC and ensure the business communities were “protected and not burdened beyond what was mandated in Municipal Act and Government guidelines”.
