Along with the rest of the county, Nagaland also observed National Education Day 2024 under the theme “Education for Change” at Alder College, Kohima on November 11.
National Education Day, is commemorated every year on November 11, to honor Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first Education Minister, on his birth anniversary, who helped shape the education system in India.
Gracing the event, advisor of School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome emphasized that Nagaland need to move ahead along with the rest of the country in diversity and quality Education.
With the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), he said India was making significant strides to enhance its education system.
On the occasion, the advisor informed that 69 private schools would soon receive recognition and underscored that education was the key to freedom, encouraging individuals to uplift themselves to match the progress of the nation. He informed that starting from next year, the state government will be introducing the Nagaland Education Service.
He also announced that the Nagaland Minimum Wage 2024 will be monitored for teachers, ensuring that teachers in private schools, who are often underpaid, receive fair pay.
Dr Yhome also released a peer- reviewed annual interdisciplinary journal published by Alder College, Kohima.
The event was organised by Nagaland Education Association (NEA) in collaboration with Department of Education, Alder College Kohima.
Earlier, the program began with an invocation by Dr. Levino L. Yhoshü, the dean of Alder College. Welcome address was delivered by general secretary of NEA, Dr. Kholia, while president of the NEA, Dr. Bweyhunle Khing, delivering the welcome address.
Can Youth commemorates NED: Celebrating the National Education Day (NED) Can Youth organized a programme at Government Middle School, Ragailong Colony, Burma Camp, on November 11. The event was held under the theme “Celebrating the Right to Learn”, supported by Scientific Vision Centre, New Delhi.
A press release by Can Youth informed that the event featured senior project manager, Can Youth, Nuye Nyekha, who dwelled on transformative power of education, inspiring students to pursue knowledge as path to personal and community growth.
The event included slogan competition on education, allowing students to showcase their creativity, whereby winners were awarded prizes.
Modern College Kohima: Department of Education, Modern College Piphema, celebrated National Education Day.
On the occasion, Vini Achumi, assistant professor Dept of B.Voc, gave a brief account of why the day was celebrated.
Cilule Ndang, Assistant Professor from the Dept. of Education, took up the session and briefed on the NEP. She mentioned that the NEP 2020 was prepared under the chairmanship of Dr K Kasturirangan.
The committee was constituted in 2017 and was approved by the Union Cabinet on 29 July 2020. The main purpose of NEP 2020 was to design a vision and framework for both school education and Higher education in India.
She mentioned that the old education structure of 10+2 has now been modified to 5+3+3+4 as per the new policy covering the age group of 3 to 18. The UG degree will be available for 3 and 4 years duration and has multiple entry and exit options within this period.
She also gave a briefing about ABC known as Academic Bank of Credit an online academic bank to store students’ credit.
