ICAR-KVK Phek reviews agricultural activities

The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Phek, under the ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema and ICAR ATARI Zone VII, Umiam, held its XXth Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting at KVK Phek to review annual progress and plan future agricultural initiatives on February 15.


Director of NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, Dr. Girish Patil, who chaired the session, emphasized the importance of sustainable and integrated farming systems.


He presented the KVK annual report for January–December 2024, followed by a discussion on collaborating with state departments to facilitate technology transfer and improve agricultural and allied sectors. The Annual Action Plan for 2025 was also presented, outlining on-farm testing, frontline demonstrations, training programs, and extension activities.


Discussions covered jhum cultivation, fodder cultivation in jhum areas, and model village development with NGOs and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to promote sustainability. Director of ICAR-ATARI Zone-VII, Umiam, Meghalaya, Dr. A.K. Mohanty, joined virtually, offering insights for KVK planning in 2025, highlighting the need for high-yielding crop varieties and technologies suited to the region’s agroclimatic conditions


Various representatives attended the meeting and provided their inputs, including Joint Director Horticulture, Nagaland, Mongsanger, DAO, Phek, Senkalemba, DHO, Phek, Pamchingla Kumrah, State Co-ordinator, North East Network, Chizami, Nezelü Nyekha, Executive Director, CWWS, Pfutsero, Ngupetso, Kühükhrülü, Khukrusulu, and Vepozo Thira (Farmer members), Branch Manager, NSCB Ltd., Pfutsero, Vizol Kera and other invited guests from line departments. Additionally, Head of Programme, Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Kohima, Debabrata Goswami and former Programme Head, Doordarshan Kendra Kohima, H.K. Chishi participated virtually and shared their valuable suggestions.
The meeting also underscored the need for interdepartmental collaboration to organize training programs and activities aimed at ensuring sustainable agricultural production in the district.


In his closing remarks, Dr. Girish Patil S commended the KVK’s efforts in promoting scientific farming practices in Phek district. Vote of thanks was delivered by Chief Technical Officer, KVK Phek, Dr. T. Esther Longkumer, while Chief Technical Officer, Dr. Hannah K. Asangla, moderated the proceedings. Earlier, the meeting began with a welcome remark from Head and Senior Scientist, KVK Phek, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh.
