Angami Public Organisation to organise Sekrenyi 2025 at Kisama

Angami Public Organisation (APO) will be organising a two-day Sekrenyi-cum-Mini Hornbill on February 25 and 26, at the Amphitheatre, Naga Heritage Village Kisama with chief minister, Neiphiu Rio as the chief host and advisor, Er. Kropol Vitsu as the host during the celebration.


Addressing a press conference at APO office, vice president and convenor of Sekrenyi 2025, Vikehielie Victor, highlighted about the significance of Sekrenyi, also known as Phousanyi, the premier festival of the Angami Naga tribe.


He said the festival was not just a time of merry making but also a time for purification of one’s body, mind, and soul. He reminisced about the traditional ways in which Sekrenyi was observed in the past, emphasising the beliefs and practices that were intrinsic to the festival.


The convenor also extended invitation to all tribal Hohos in Kohima and Naga tribal bodies from Manipur to be part of the main even on the second day. Vice president of the Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) and member secretary, Sekrenyi planning committee, Dievi Yano, informed that the two-day festival will commence with the first day confined to the Angami community on February 25.


This day will feature ethnic cultural presentations and indigenous games with advisor, Printing and Stationery, Er. Kropol Vitsu as the host. While on the second day, the festival will be opened to a larger audience, with chief minister Neiphiu Rio as the chief host.


Thousands are expected to participate in the two-day grand celebration, which will coincide with the Mini Hornbill Festival, he said. One of the highlights of the festival will be the Under-12 and Under-15 traditional wrestling exhibition matches, which will take place on the second day. The event will also feature stalls exhibiting and selling traditional Angami attires, crafts, as well as homegrown vegetables and local produce.


AYO president and member of the planning committee, Kesosul Christopher Ltu, announced that there will be a musical night for the youths which will be hosted by Neiketouno Sechü, former Miss Nagaland, on February 26 starting from 4 p.m. The musical evening will feature prominent local musicians.


Emphasising a focus on youth engagement, he said the festival will feature the special musical event for young people, particularly those with a passion for music. With no entry fees, the concert will be open for all. The committee extended an open invitation to all the tribe Hohos to be part of the main celebration on February 26.
