5 villages in Mon get water supply

Minister PHE, Jacob Zhimomi virtually inaugurated a water supply project to Mon village and four neighbouring villages at his residence on Wednesday.
The project under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) to provide water supply by gravity to Mon village and four neighbouring villages in Mon district was funded by Ministry of Development of North East region and will benefit more than 17 thousand population.
It may be mentioned that the first water supply was inaugurated at Aboi under Mon district on December 8, 2022 for Aboi and Longching headquarters.
Inaugurating the project, Jacob said that the project took time to complete but was executed as per the development proposed. He thanked the public for extending cooperation in carrying out the project successfully.
The minister also claimed that state government has carried out many developmental project and more were in the pipeline under the leadership of chief minister Neiphui Rio.
Jacob also mentioned about the Jal Jeevan Mission, which was to assist, empower and facilitate: States/ UTs in planning of participatory rural water supply strategy for ensuring potable drinking water security on long-term basis to every rural household and public institutions. The minster therefore advised the people to take care of the facilities provided and become a responsible citizen. He also sought unity amongst the Nagas for progress and development.
Delivering technical report PHE chief engineer and HoD Repangyangba Longkumer said that the project estimated at Rs. 1546.67 lakh, funded by government of India, ministry of DoNER and state government (90:10) was started in 2016 and commissioned in January 18, 2023.
He said the work was delayed due to Covid -19 pandemic, inaccessibility and harsh/ steel terrain in thick jungle.
On the scope of the project, Longkumer said that it consists of transmission of water from source to main reservoir, imparting treatment and thereafter distributing it to the five villages namely Mon, Leangnyu, Lmapong Sheanghah, Phuktong and Tuime through individual sub-mainlines.
The water has been sourced from Talam river and management of water supply will be executed by WATSAN committees and PHED will provide technical support in case of major breakdowns and the committees have been empowered to collect water user charges from the housholds which can be utilized for O&M.
Advisor Social Welfare, Home Guards, Civil Defence SDRF, Noke Wangnao highlighted on the project and lauded the department employees who have worked tirelessly for the completion of the work. He appealed to the villagers to pay the bills on time and encouraged all to make the best use of the source available. Short speech was delivered by Mon village council chairman, Nokpen Wangnao.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by chief engineer, Sanitation & WSSO Er Thsathrichem Sangtam.
